Tyler Garner started playing the violin, studying with Heather Austin-Stone of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra when he was in the 4th grade around age 10; comparatively late for violinists serious about making a career. Nevertheless, Tyler went on to obtain both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in violin performance from Shenandoah University Conservatory in Winchester, VA and Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ, studying under Akemi Takayama at Shenandoah University, as well as the first violinist of the Shanghai String Quartet, Weigang Li, at Montclair State University. Tyler has a passion for playing the violin and listening to music and is firmly dedicated to art. He has had the privilege of performing in concert halls throughout Spain and the United States, notably at the Strathmore Center in Bethesda, MD. Tyler has a natural love of teaching and is excited and thankful to be a part of the team at Ellsworth School of Music.
